How A Mere Male Can Lose 21 Kg In 8 Weeks Posted By :

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Around ten months ago, after thirty eight years of being a cigarette smoker, I finally realised what a disgusting habit it really is and decided it was time for me to quit. I decided that I was stronger than any habit or addiction and gave up cold turkey without any patches pills or anything else. The first week was extremely difficult but since then I have not even thought about cigarettes.

I then developed a different problem and even though I did not increase my food intake, or change what I was eating, I started to put on weight and before long none of my clothes fitted me and I had gained over 20kg. I had maintained a body weight of 96kg for most of my life and, being quite a tall man 189cm, presented as physically fit and in good body shape. Now I was carrying 116kg, I had a huge "beer belly", even though I am a non-drinker, and looked in a dreadful physical shape.

I had to lose weight. I spoke to every female in my circle of friends about weight and weight loss and the best ways of losing weight and keeping it off in my search for the way to lose this 20kg sack of potatoes I was now forced to carry around with me. Everyone that I spoke to had a different diet and a different story to tell me but I quickly sorted out that most diets don't work, or if they do manage to remove some weight, it is very quickly put back on.

Then I spoke to my friend Sharon, who is 60 years old and weighs just 52kg, about her weight and she told me about a system she uses for removing fat from her body and keeping it off permanently. As she told me of this product I suddenly realized that this was exactly what I needed as I didn't want to stop eating at restaurants, nor did I want to stop having some fine wine with my meals. What I needed was to burn the fat developing on my body and to keep burning it off me at a sufficient rate to reduce my weight.

Once I started on the program I was able to learn:

How to lose up to 3kg each week
Supermarket shopping tips to maintain my weight loss
List of the best fat burning foods
How to eat more to speed up the weight loss
Eat later at night to eliminate bedtime hunger
Stay slim for the rest of my life.

It took me only eight weeks to reach my desired weight of 95kg and I have maintained that weight now for the past six weeks. I still enjoy food and fine dining and some excellent wine to wash it all down and I have not reduced the amount of food that I am eating. I follow the program easily because of the "online diet generator" that comes with the program. I can very easily organize my diet for the coming week by spending just a couple of minutes online each week.

So if you are trying to lose weight and have found that the Low-Carb Diets, the Low-Calorie Diets and the Low-Fat Diets don't work for you and that starving yourself does not reduce your weight then I can thoroughly recommend this fat burning system. It worked for me and it works for my friend Sharon and I have since found several other people following the system and they are all thoroughly happy with their results.

Don't procrastinate any longer - you can find out more about it at my web site.

Vermillion Announces Positive Results From Clinical Trial Of Ovarian Tumor Triage Test; Study Meets Primary Endpoints

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Vermillion, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRMLD), a molecular diagnostics company, announced preliminary results from a clinical trial evaluating its Ovarian Tumor Triage Test. The study met its primary endpoints, demonstrating that the test successfully stratifies women with pelvic masses into high- and low-risk categories to determine whether the patient should be referred to a specialist prior to surgery. These results indicate that the use of this test could significantly increase the percentage of high-risk cases referred to the appropriate specialist for treatment, ultimately improving survival rates.(1)(2)

Vermillion's novel ovarian biomarker panel ruled out malignancy with approximately 95 percent certainty or negative predictive value. Negative predictive value is the probability that the patient is free of disease based on diagnostic evaluation. The panel also showed approximately 90 percent sensitivity for detecting malignant ovarian tumors. The prospective clinical trial was one of the largest ever conducted and assessed more than 550 patients with a confirmed adnexal mass at 27 clinical trial sites in the United States. Vermilion plans to submit this in vitro diagnostic test to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clearance.

The Ovarian Tumor Triage Test provides information that may help improve outcomes for the hundreds of thousands of women in the United States who annually undergo surgery to remove a pelvic mass. While the vast majority of these tumors are benign, studies show that women with ovarian cancer who are initially operated on by a gynecologic oncologist have improved median and overall survival and have a better chance of being cured. Vermillion's ovarian tumor triage test utilizes a panel of biomarkers to help identify women at high risk of having cancer so that they can be referred directly to a gynecologic oncologist for their initial surgery.

"The results from this clinical study hold promise for the large number of women diagnosed with an ovarian tumor each year," said Fred Ueland, M.D., principal investigator of the study and Associate Professor of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Kentucky. "A test that informs women and their physicians of the risk of malignancy before surgery is an important advancement, and will help guide women to the appropriate specialist."

"These statistically significant results represent a major milestone in bringing our Ovarian Tumor Triage Test one step closer to patients who so desperately need a way of determining their risk of having a cancerous mass," said Gail Page, President and CEO of Vermillion. "Additionally, the results further confirm the company's significant investment in and commitment to our ovarian cancer diagnostics program. We look forward to publicly sharing the full data after making our submission to the FDA."

About Vermillion's Ovarian Cancer Diagnostic Program

In addition to developing a diagnostic test designed to distinguish between benign and malignant pelvic masses, Vermillion has a broad program of ovarian cancer diagnostic tests in development. Studies are underway to detect early-stage ovarian cancer, predict prognosis and recurrence, and identify women considered at high-risk for the disease.

Vermillion's comprehensive diagnostic development program is being conducted with several leading collaborators at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Rigshospitalet (Copenhagen), and the University of Kentucky.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), approximately 22,430 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed this year, and 15,280 deaths will be reported as a result of the disease. When diagnosed at its earliest stages, ovarian cancer has a 5-year survival rate of 93 percent. However, only 19 percent of ovarian cancers are diagnosed before the tumor has spread outside the ovary. For late-stage disease, the 5-year survival rate falls to 18 percent. Ovarian cancer has up to a 90 percent cure rate following surgery and/or chemotherapy if detected in stage 1.

Treating Genital Herpes Does Not Reduce Risk Of HIV, Study Says

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Treating genital herpes does not reduce the risk of contracting HIV, according to a study published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, Reuters reports. Herpes simplex virus-2 has been shown to increase the risk of HIV by as much as 69%, so many experts have been examining whether treating HSV-2 might reduce the risk of HIV.

For the study, Deborah Watson-Jones of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and colleagues enrolled 659 female workers ages 16 to 35 at recreational facilities in Tanzania (Fox, Reuters, 3/12). All the participants were HIV-negative and HSV-2-positive at the start of the study. Some of the women were given two daily pills of acyclovir, a drug that can suppress outbreaks of HSV-2, and some were given a placebo. The women visited mobile clinics every three months for 12 to 30 months (Watson-Jones et al., NEJM, 3/12).

The study found that the women given two acyclovir pills daily were not less likely to contract HIV than women given placebos. "These data show no evidence that acyclovir as HSV-suppressive therapy decreases the incidence of infection with HIV," the researchers wrote. They noted that the given dose might not have been high enough to suppress herpes and that urine tests indicated many of the women were not taking the pills as prescribed.

According to the researchers, an estimated 74%, 22% and 63% of new HIV cases among men, women and bar and hotel employees, respectively, in Tanzania are attributable to HSV-2. About 6.5% of people in Tanzania ages 15 to 49 are HIV-positive. HIV prevalence "reaches 40% in high risk groups, such as workers in bars and guesthouses, who may supplement their income by offering sex in return for money or gifts," the researchers added, noting that few use condoms (Reuters, 3/12).

The study is available online.

Necrotizing Fasciitis - Flesh-Eating Bacteria Treatment

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store
Necrotizing fasciitis commonly known as "flesh-eating bacteria." Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare bacterial infection that can destroy skin and the soft tissues beneath it, including fat and the tissue covering the muscles (fascia). The syndrome may be caused by a variety of agencies, and often is actually a combination of several infection germs attack at a time. Many types of bacteria can cause necrotizing (eg Group A Streptococcus, Vibrio vulnificus, Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis), whose Group A streptococcal (also known as Streptococcus pyogenes) is the most common cause. Necrotizing fasciitis is caused by several kinds of bacteria. The most common cause is infection by a group A streptococcal (GAS) bacterium, most often Streptococcus pyogenes, which also causes other infections such as strep throat and impetigo. Usually the infections caused by these bacteria are mild. But in rare cases the bacteria produce poisons (toxins) that can damage the soft tissue below the skin and cause a more dangerous infection that can spread quickly along the tissue covering the muscle (fascia).SymptomsThe infection begins locally, at a site of trauma, which may be severe (such as the result of surgery), minor, or even non-apparent. The affected skin is classically, at first, very painful without any grossly visible change. With progression of the disease, tissue becomes swollen, often within hours. Diarrhea and vomiting are common symptoms as well. Inflammation does not show signs right away if the bacteria is deep within the tissue. If it is not deep, signs of inflammation such as redness and swollen or hot skin show very quickly. Skin color may progress to violet and blisters may form, with subsequent necrosis (death) of the subcutaneous tissues.Treatment Treatment of necrotizing fasciitis is most effective if the infection is recognized in time. Antibiotics and surgical removal of dead tissue are required. If the tissue destruction is widespread, extensive surgery or amputation might be the only way to prevent death. While early diagnosis and treatment are the key to preventing devastating tissue destruction, physicians and patients often fail to recognize necrotizing fasciitis and its severity. To help prevent any kind of infection, wash your hands often, and always keep cuts, scrapes, burns, sores, and bites clean.

Australia: Smoking And Blood Pressure Are Deadly

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Smoking and high blood pressure are a deadly combination that dramatically increase the risk of a blood vessel bursting inside the brain, Australian research shows.

High blood pressure and smoking are known to increase the risk of heart diseases, but Sydney researchers have shown that the two have a stronger "synergistic effect" when both are present.

A study by the George Institute for International Health in Sydney found that smokers with high blood pressure are significantly more likely to suffer from a hemorrhagic stroke, a type of "bleeding" stroke where a blood vessel bursts and bleeds in the brain, than non-smokers with blood pressure problems.

Lead researcher Professor Koshi Nakamura said the revelation should encourage smokers to quit and deal with their blood pressure as well. "Since we found that these two risk factors have a synergistic effect, quitting smoking and lowering blood pressure will contribute more to preventing stroke than if this previously unreported interaction is ignored," Prof Nakamura said.

A hemorrhagic stroke is especially debilitating as about half of sufferers die as a result of it, while many survivors are left with paralysis or other crippling effects.

It was the only type of cardiovascular problem where researchers found this heightened risk. Smoking did not appear to exacerbate the impact of blood pressure on the risk of coronary heart disease or ischemic stroke, which was caused by a blood clot.

The researchers believe smoking may damage blood vessels in the brain that are already weakened by high blood pressure. Weakened blood vessels are prone to rupture and bleeding and are therefore particularly susceptible to hemorrhagic stroke, Prof Nakamura said.

The research, published by the American Heart Association, involved 563,144 people of mostly Asian descent.

About 40% of all deaths in Australia each year are caused be heart, stroke and vascular diseases, which is more than any other disease group.
